A mysterious fire on Monday destroyed lock up stores at the main market in Ogwashi Uku community near Asaba, Delta State with goods worth millions of naira consumed.
It was gathered that the fire outbreak started at about 10pm.
Worse hit in the mysterious inferno, which many attributed to power surge was electronics shops.
An eyewitness, John Ebuka told newsmen that “It was the red flame and smoke from one of the stores that attracted our interest, we had to contact the security men in the market who in turn started calling people.
“Why we are suspecting the inferno to may have been triggered by high voltage was due to the fact that the fire outbreak started few minutes after the electricity went off.”
While describing the fire outbreak as mysterious, Mrs. Rosemary Ojeogwu, a resident of Ogwashi Uku community, appealed to the state government to come to the victims’ aid.
It was gathered that for the efforts of Ogwashi Uku Polytechnic water tanker that supplied water with which soaps were mixed with the water to quench the fire, the entire market would have been razed to ashes.
But the state Commissioner of Special Duties, Earnest Ogwezzy, who spoke to newsmen in the area, expressed shock over the incident and assured that the state government will do everything possible to fix the burnt stores.
He added, ”It is very shocking to see goods worth millions of naira razed, the state government will do everything possible to fix the burn stores.”

The chairman of the council, Aniocha South local government, Mr Issac Awuzia, however, assured that the traders of the council’s investigation to the inferno, adding that the council authorities will do everything possible to assist the victims and rebuild the destroyed lock up stores as soon as possible
