A Pan-Nigerian organisation, Integration Summit Group-Nigeria (ISG-N), has urged the Federal Government and security agencies to beef up security around educational institutions in the Boko Haram prone areas to forestall future attacks by the insurgents.
The group made the remark while condemning the abduction of 110 students of Federal Government Girls Science and Technical College in Dapchi, Yobe State, on February 19, 2018.
A statement issued by the Convener of ISG-N, Dr Chris Ekiyor, urged the Nigerian Government and security outfits to step up moves in identifying the whereabouts of the students and ensure their safe rescue and return to their parents.
Ekiyor expressed worry at the incessant attacks on schools and other soft targets by the insurgents in the Northern part of the country with, “its attendant psychological effect on both the students, parents and the affected communities alike.”
The statement reads, “This is happening at a time when the nation is yet to totally recover the abducted Chibok girls from these same enemies of our country who seem bound to unleashing mayhem, wanton killings and inflicting pains on families from their dastardly activities.
“In recent times, the security apparatus in Yobe state particularly is so worrisome and calls for concern. You would recall that fifty-nine male students were murdered in cold blood at the Federal Government College, Buni Yadi on February 25th 2014 in the same state.
“The nation cannot continue to be put in bad light as unsafe and insecured, especially for its young generation in the comity of nations due to the actions of these unscrupulous elements”. This is definitely another slap in the face of promoting the girl child education and its negative effect cannot be quantified.
“Integration summit Group-Nigeria (ISG-N) as advocates of unity, peace and progress of the nation, hereby calls on the Federal government and the security agencies in the country to beef up security around educational institutions in the Boko Haram prone areas to forestall future attacks by the insurgents”.
The group also frowned at the politicization of the ‘national disaster’ by the authorities and called for help, for the already traumatized parents and families of the abducted students by carrying them along on efforts being made to rescue the students.
“As citizens of Nigeria, Every Nigerian is free to live in any part of the country unmolested by any group and we demand that our safety should be guaranteed to further our various pursuits”, the statement added
