Preventing terrorist financing is therefore crucial to countering these threats. Since many States lack the legal and operational frameworks and technical expertise to address such financing, UNODC has developed a training course to provide support.
24 October - Success in fighting corruption is essential to achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. But gathering reliable anti-corruption data and measuring progress presents a major challenge, for all countries. UNODC and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) therefore developed a "Manual on Corruption Surveys", which helps measure bribery and other forms of corruption through sample surveys.

15 October - Yury Fedotov, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, opened the ninth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime today, urging governments to strengthen cooperative action against shared challenges. The opening session was also addressed by the President of Panama, Juan Carlos Varela RodrÃguez, Italian Justice Minister Alfonso Bonafede and other high-level speakers.

Prisoner rehabilitation is both key to protecting society from crime as well as helping prisoners be better prepared for their release. Towards this, training and reintegration initiatives, coupled with post-release support, are essential towards reducing recidivism. UNODC and the Government of Singapore recently conducted a joint regional training workshop on correctional rehabilitation, bringing together some 63 officials from 16 Asian and Pacific Island countries.
11 October 2018 - Around 800 Government representatives, crime experts and civil society partners will meet in Vienna from 15 to 19 October for the ninth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC), to discuss current global challenges in this field.
Fighting drugs and crime takes place at many levels, and switching from a punitive to a more rehabilitative approach has become a growing trend among prison administrations. As the guardian of the Nelson Mandela Rules, UNODC puts great focus on the conditions of prisoners, and on contributing solutions to facilitate their smooth reinsertion into society. This important vocation is also one of the four components of the Global Programme for the Implementation of the Doha Declaration.
6 October 2018 - While the presence of corruption and criminality surrounding sport is not a new phenomenon, the last decade has seen a noticeable increase in illegal activities designed to exploit sports for illicit gain. With the realization that many of the most profitable illegal activities involve a strong international dimension, UNODC and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) have signed an agreement to fight competition manipulation and related corruption in sport.
VIENNA, 5 October 2018 - Yury Fedotov, Executive Director of UNODC, congratulated Nadia Murad Basee Taha, UNODC Goodwill Ambassador for the Dignity of Survivors of Human Trafficking, on being awarded the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize today.
"The 2018 Nobel Peace Prize is truly a well-deserved honour for our UNODC Goodwill Ambassador Nadia Murad, who has been a brave and powerful voice for survivors of human trafficking and victims of sexual violence as a weapon of conflict," said Mr. Fedotov.
Buenos Aires, September 2018 - Trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants are global concerns. Supporting regional coordination efforts in the fight against these crimes is therefore critical, and a UNODC priority. The fourth meeting of the Ibero-American network of specialized prosecutors on trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants (REDTRAM) was held from 26 to 28 September in Buenos Aires.
2 October 2018 - Today, Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism Vladimir Voronkov, and UNODC Executive Director Yury Fedotov, jointly held a briefing for Permanent Missions in Vienna. They informed Member States about the current status of the implementation of the first institutional reform of the UN Secretary-General to review counter-terrorism efforts of the United Nations. They also briefed on the fruitful cooperation between UNODC and UNOCT in this field.
Under the slogan ' Enjoy and take care of yourself on the Internet,' the Ministry of Education of El Salvador, through its Vice Ministry of Science and Technology, has launched a national campaign using UNODC educational materials. Developed by the Education for Justice initiative the materials included The Online Zoo book and modules designed to assist teachers in early media education as they explain to children the challenges of being online.
1 October - In the coming decade, major regional infrastructure upgrades in Southeast Asia are expected to lead to freer movement of people and goods and increased economic growth. These welcome developments will, however, also provide more opportunities for organized criminal groups to traffic illicit goods and smuggle across borders. Over 70 UNODC-supported Border Liaison Offices operate throughout Southeast Asia to fight this crime.
